What This Website Is
IdealCoffeeShop.com is an editorial website funded by affiliate commissions. Our pages are written from manufacturer specifications, retailer listing data and published owner feedback. We do not buy, test or physically handle the products we write about, and nothing on this Website should be read as a report of our own use of a machine or as a technical inspection of one. Specifications and prices change without notice, and the retailer page is the authority on what you are buying.
Coffee Equipment Safety
The equipment covered on this Website heats water, generates steam, holds pressure and in some cases uses chemical cleaning agents. Read this section before acting on anything you find here.
- Hot water and steam. Coffee brewers heat water to close to boiling point. Steam wands, milk frothers, hot plates, carafes and portafilters get hot enough to scald or burn. Keep hot appliances, cords and freshly brewed coffee out of reach of children and pets, and never open, dismantle or reach inside a machine while it is hot.
- Pressure vessels. Espresso machines and stovetop moka pots build and hold internal pressure. Do not fill past the marked line, never block, tamper with or remove a safety valve, and never attempt to open a moka pot or a boiler while it is under pressure or still hot. Inspect gaskets, seals and safety valves for wear and replace them with parts approved by the manufacturer.
- Percolators. Stovetop percolators are used on a live gas flame or a hot electric ring; handles, lids and bodies become hot and the unit should not be left unattended while brewing. Electric percolators and coffee urns must be used with the base and cord supplied, must never be immersed in water, and must not be operated empty or beyond their marked capacity.
- Descaling and cleaning chemicals. Descalers, cleaning tablets and backflush powders are chemical products. Store them out of reach of children and pets, keep them in their original labeled container, and never mix a descaler with bleach, ammonia or any other cleaning product, because dangerous fumes can result. Follow the dilution and rinse cycles in the machine manual exactly, run the full number of rinse cycles before brewing again, and do not drink the descaling solution.
- Electrical safety. Do not immerse an electrical appliance or its cord in water, do not use an appliance with a damaged cord or plug, and use the voltage and outlet type the manufacturer specifies. Unplug the appliance before cleaning or descaling unless the manual says otherwise.
- Follow the manual. Always follow the instructions, warnings and maintenance schedule supplied by the manufacturer of your appliance. The information on this Website is general reference material and is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s manual, safety notices, warranty terms or support service. Where anything on this Website conflicts with the manufacturer’s instructions, follow the manufacturer.
- No guarantee of performance. We do not guarantee that any product described here will perform as its listing claims, will suit your purpose, will be compatible with your pods, filters, grind or water supply, or will be free from defects. Check current recall notices with the manufacturer before using an appliance you have owned for some time.
You use coffee equipment at your own risk, and you are responsible for operating it safely and in line with the instructions that came with it.
