Neither figure is explained and the carafe volume is never stated directly. Treat 70 ounces as the working number, since it is the one consistent with the cup rating, and ignore the 112.
Small Batch and Strong Brew
The one to four cup selector is the feature that makes a fourteen cup machine practical. Brewing a small volume on a full size cycle gives thin coffee because the water passes through a shallow bed too quickly. A dedicated small batch mode slows the cycle to compensate, so the machine is usable on a Tuesday morning as well as at a Sunday brunch.
The Strong Brew Selector works the same way in the opposite direction, extending contact time for a bolder cup. Who It Suits
This suits a household or a small workplace that genuinely needs 70 ounces at a time and wants small batch and strength controls so the machine is not useless the rest of the week. The chlorine filtration and the adjustable keep warm are unusual at this price and both make a difference to what ends up in the cup.
Look elsewhere if your cabinets are low, if you want to fill from the front, or if you need a long service record before buying.
